"Generosity" & Lies

From The Clothes Have No Emperor, pg 36:

12/22[1981] As Christmas approaches, President Reagan authorizes the distribution of 30 million pounds of surplus cheese to the poor. According to a government official, the cheese is well over a year old and has reached "critical inventory situation." Translation: it's moldy.

During a PBS interview, President Reagan -- who has previously noted that elements of FDR's New Deal resembled fascism -- claims that New Deal proponents actually "espoused" fascism. Roosevelt biographer Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., calls this "a gross distortion of history."
